Succulents have been my favorite plant to grow and subject to paint, especially those of the echeveria family. I love that a mother plant can produce endless babies with a bit of care. I enjoy witnessing the growth of new life from a single dropped leaf.
‘Succulents 2’ is a continuation of a series that started many years ago with my first succulent painting. I hope to continue this series of round, bulbous forms and amplification of the subtle shifts in color.
This piece is my return to oil painting after a long hiatus and significant life changes. It required me to overcome the fear and intimidation I felt around returning to oil painting. The creation of this painting felt like a “welcome home”- welcome back to art and welcome to the Olympia art community. We (myself and my art) have emerged.
